Seeds are sown with logs made from coconut husks (outer coconut husks) and anchored along the coastline.

Operations manager Ann Lefler said that more than 5,000 pre-vegetated coconut palm mats and logs are produced every year.

The nursery grows specific aquatic plants for the project.

Among the North Fork Native Plants in the nursery in eastern Idaho, wetland plants growing on logs and mats made of coconut shell (the fiber of the coconut shell) are the key to growth.

"I saw at a conference how the Germans successfully used pre-planted coconut husks to replant the challenging wetlands in Europe and planted seeds," Jeff Krauss, who founded North Fork Native Plants in 2003 Man said.

This 20-acre nursery stretches along the banks of Henry Fox on the Snake River near Rexburg and is now a major producer of pre-planted coconut logs and mats in the western United States

Logs and mats have been used in projects in the western mountain area to restore streams and coastlines to help prevent weed erosion and invasion.

Wildlife biologist Klausman said: "What I want to say is that we are engaged in the business of breeding wild animals." "One of the most meaningful parts of my work is working with producers. The value of growing cash crops nearby."

In addition to farmers, other partners include wildlife agencies, utilities, businesses and transportation departments.

The 12 lined ponds in the nursery cover more than 8 acres and can produce more than 5,000 kinds of pre-vegetated coconut palm mats and logs each year.

"In a typical growing season, we produced nearly 4,000 pre-planted coconut palm mats," said Ann Lefler, Operations and Sales Manager.

Other products of the nursery include exposed and containerized wetlands and other native plants, as well as customized planting services.

Lefler said: "We ship products to wholesale markets throughout the West." "We also signed contracts to meet the specific needs of the project."

The nursery has a variety of native plants, including herbaceous wetland plants, willows, shrubs and trees. These plants are raised in four separate climate-controlled greenhouses, which have a production area of more than 12,000 square feet.

Lefler said: "On average, we produce more than 300,000 containerized wetland plants of different sizes each year."

The nursery also has a room for handling, processing and cleaning all seeds for transportation.

Lefler said: "We follow a strict handling protocol, and from the initial receipt, each seed batch is marked and tracked through any cleaning and stratification process, and then sown in the greenhouse." "Our commercial grade. The cold storage provides the best temperature control for seed storage and stratification."

Klausman said: "Our business is to provide native plants to restore wetlands and streams in the west, and ultimately create habitats for future wildlife."
